thing 43

i signed up for hulu and watched a few things from snl. i think i'm really gonna like this because i can never allow my life to be dictated by television schedules but there are lots of things i would like to see.

thing 42

i singed up for an account with pandora, something i've been meaning to do for a long time because it seems like everyone else uses it an has only nice things to say about it. i have found really great music on the internet before, and i think that pandora and the other radio sites are really useful. when i listen to the radio, though, i mostly listen to mpr and i don't really use the radio for music. i'm not sure if that will change now but i am really glad pandora exists.

thing 41

i signed up for superglu but i really don't like this sort of thing and don't plan to actually use it. i suppose i can see how someone might like these sites/services but it's just not for me. to me, it's easier to keep track of facebook, twitter and the other services i use by logging in to each one separately, although i do have links to them all on my yahoo homepage.

thing 38

i wasn't able to actually make a screencast but i did watch a few of the tutorials and can see how they are useful. if i would have been able to make it work, i would probably have made a screencast about doing advanced searches on j-stor or another online journal archive since most of my classmates in college never mastered those types of sites.

thing 40

i explored walkable and the lunchbox/wheel of food mashups. i still don't really like or understand mashups but i did find these to be useful. i like living in neighborhoods where i have everything i need within walking distance so this will be useful whenever i move to a new place. i also like the fast food mashups, which would be very helpful while traveling.
as far as what could be useful in a library - lazy library would be helpful for finding books for people who want a quick read.
for my mahup i used bubblr to add a script bubble to a photo of my friend's cat. it isn't very funny or clever but the cat is cute...

thing 36

i have never used generators at the library or anywhere. i don't really see most of them being useful, just fun. however, i suppose that wufoo could be useful in a library setting during times when we are performing online surveys on our web site, which we have done in the past. perhaps using something like wufoo would be a more attractive way of presenting the questionairre.
also, i don't so reference at our library, but i can see how something like the citation generator would be helpful because i have asked librarians about citations in the past while writing papers and what not. most of us are not familiar with all of the different styles of citation, so when faced with those types of questions it would be nice to know where to find a quick answer.

thing 35

i signed up for twitterlit and dailylit and looked at a few other sites as well. i don't really think i'll get into either of these services. i also don't expect that electronics will completely take over printed books either. at our library, i only get a few questions every once in a while about audio books and downloading them. of course, a good portion of our patrons are here for our computers, books are still a hot item as well. although i don't really see any right or wrong way to read (online or print), people will always have preferences for one or the other and people like myself will provide the audience for printed books.
also, i don't see any reason for anyone to be hostile to any of the services/ideas put forth by the book 2.0 tools/sites. i think that if you use them correctly they weill enhance your reading experience becuase you will be introduced to new things and have the opportunity to discuss your reads with others. if you don't like it, don't use it.

thing 34

i'm not sure how i feel about online answer sites. there is certainly a market/audience for them and i understand the appeal of posting a question anonymously and getting rather quick answers from a variety of people. in a library setting you are generally asking your question face to face with a librarian, and i personally would never feel comfortable providing relationship advice or any other extremely personal advice to any of our patrons. this is where i think online answer sites are really useful. as long as people don't forget about their libraries, i see no reason to treat people as though they can't figure a few things out on their own.

thing 33

ya know what? traveling is expensive!! i think that is the most important thing that travel 2.0 has taught me.
but seriously, the sites i like the best were the blogging sites - it's fun to hear travel stories and get ideas about what i might like to do and where i might like to do it. however, if i were serious about going somewhere i would probably check all of the different travel site categories before i made a final decision. reading a travel blog is informative in terms of inspiring you to actually go somewhere but other review sites are necessary to book rooms/flights and find out how much the trip might actually cost you. the last type of site, the mashups, are helpful too. i liked fastfoodmaps.com - i'm a bit of a wimp and i like being able to anticipate steady meals of food i can stomach.

also, i looked at hotels in winnipeg and did not find a room for under $86 per night - is that normal???

thing 31

i really didn't do a whole lot of experimenting with different ways of using or accessing twitter - i really don't see myself ever doing any of those things. i did, however, sign up for photo-sharing, but nave not added anything yet. i did add the twitter photo sharing thing to my blog, though, so when/if i do add something it will show up here. i also added myself to the twitter directory.
i don't use twitter as much as i thought i would when i first discovered it. i think it's a wonderful thing, but i don't really have a whole lot of time in one day to constantly update something like that. plus, i don't know a whole lot of people that are on twitter. i have tried introducing people, but i find that a lot of people i talk to about it are skeptical.
in any case, i find twitter to be a fine social network that is set apart from most others. it allows a different type of interaction with people online that doesn't really happen on things like facebook. i used to think social networking sites were a total waste of time, but twitter, and facebook before it, have proved me wrong. go twitter!

thing 30

i didn't really do anything new with my rss reader but i did add it to my blog. i already know how to do everything i want to do with my reader, and delicious, too. i like delicious, even though i don't use it that much. i found insuggest useful and i was able to find a few new sites with it, and i added a delicious button to the blog.

i made a map on google maps. i put it on my blog.

thing 29

I ALMOST DELETED MY BLOG!!!! it was scary.

anyhow, for this thing i set up google alerts for my email. this is actually pretty great because you will be notified whenever something new happens in whatever topic you specify. so, instead of searching the web for the latest news on stimulus packages and what not, you will have the latest news delivered right to your email account. i like this service and it was really easy to set up.

i also set up a google calander, which i'm not sure if i'll actually use. i can see how this would be very useful to individuals or businesses , but to me personally it seems like too much work to have to log into my google account to see what i'm supposed to do that day. i will at least try to use it though, and we'll see if it lasts.

thing 28

i created my homepage with my yahoo, since i already had a yahoo email account. i don't know if i have the energy to use this sort of thing everyday, but if i did it would be quite useful. there are lots of fun things you can do with it, many ways to personalize it. i like the idea of being able to consolidate all of the things we have done so far, but have not been able to figure out how to add my delicious account or any other outside link yet. i don't know if this is just how yahoo is set up or if i just need to play around a bit more. perhaps i will check out google or some of the other homepage service providers since i didn't really shop around before setting mine up. in any case i would like some way of combining every thing i have done so far in one place, so i will be working on that...

thing 27

TWITTER IS AMAZING!!!!!!! i am in love with twitter and i will probably use it on my own time regularly. this is by far my favorite thing so far. i really didn't see what use it could possibly be at first but then i found that i could follow newspapers, politicians, authors, artists, etc. very fun. EVERYBODY SHOULD BE ON TWITTER!!!

thing 26

i joined the more things groups on ning last week. it seems to be similar to other social networkign sites, so it should be easy enough to use. it is probably the most useful thing thus far because it will allow us all to communicate with other people participating in the program. i joined a group too! comfort zone - for people being forced out of their comfort zone by the many things on a stick. although i think my comfort zone is rapidly expanding.

thing 15

so i did some playing around last week so now there are some new fancy additions to my little blog. I wasn't very excited about any of the options, but i did add the news feed to the side, which is neat i suppose. i also added the blogger badge and a little button just in case anyone comes across the blog and wants to subscribe to it...

i don't like to capitalize when i type

Thing 24

Ha! Well I have a blog!
